How to choose a grocery store has to take in to account a great many considerations. One has to consider everything from the location of the store, to its prices, to the products which it offers for sale.
The first step in choosing a grocery store is to make a list of those which are within easy reach of either one's home or place of work. Unless the store is truly exceptional, it is unlikely that one an hour's drive away is likely to be convenient on a regular basis. Different locales will of course produce a list of varying lengths in this respect but hopefully most people should have at least three or four viable options from which to choose.
It may seem obvious, but the next step in choosing a grocery store is to actually visit the grocery stores which have been identified as potential candidates. This should not ideally be to make a lengthy list of purchases - as the selection process itself could in this way prove extremely expensive - but by identifying a few items which are required to purchase from each store, a feel can be got both for the stores themselves, their product ranges and their prices.
It is advisable during these initial visits to carry a notepad and pen and in each individual store, to note down the prices and availability of frequently purchased items. This should not be an exhaustive list, merely one which allows availability and price comparisons to be made following the conclusion of all visits.
It may also be advisable during the initial visit to each grocery store to look for such as hygiene issues, the quality of the produce and how it is packed. Dirty floors and products such as meats leaking juices or badly damaged fruits and vegetables should be an indication as to the overall quality of the store and perhaps an excellent reason alone to strike it from the list of possibilities.
When all the stores have been visited and all the lists completed, it should be possible in the first instance to total up the cost of shopping at each store for the identified items. This will give a good indication of the financial benefits of shopping at each store, which can of course then be weighed up and compared against the other determined factors.
It is without doubt worth performing the above exercise when considering how to choose a grocery store as the undertaking should help to provide quality and value in one's weekly shop for what may well be a long time to come.
