Poetry: Prince Charming

by Carol Gioia

Created on: June 16, 2009   Last Updated: February 11, 2012

Mothers tell their daughters,
choose a stable lad who's giving.
He may not be Prince Charming,
but he'll make a decent living

You can't survive on fairy tales,
choose a mate whose able
to provide the finer things in life,
and keep food on the table.

That motherly advice,
fell on deafened ears the day
your green eyes pierced my soul,
and stole my heart away.

Treating me like royalty
with all your princely charms,
caution was thrown to the wind,
and I wound up in your arms.

Mother isn't always right,
in this case she's mistaken,
Prince Charming truly does exist,
but he's already taken.
