There are too many anchors for folks to hitch onto today when the going gets tough. There are too few challenges to test their mettle.For example, if they lose their job or lack food, there are always social agencies ready to provide the basic necessities. Many are satisfied to subsist on those basics, they lack the tenacity and determination to move on to something better.
Additionally, there are too few expectations and many folks tend to live down to those that are there.Whether folks take less responsibility for themselves today is a matter of perspective; however, I would wager that most do but, as in most areas of life the squeaky wheel receives the attention.
Imagine the state of our world today if everyone did take responsibility for their actions, their children's, their pets' or anything else that belongs to them. Imagine during the normal course of life, parents who committed acts or said things that contradicted their moral principles they owned up to them.
Imagine them telling their children they erred when they said or did the things they did. Imagine them still, telling their children that everyone over the course of his or her life will do or say something they regret, but it take a responsible person to accept blame for their actions. When they do these things, they are teaching their children about integrity and moral uprightness. They are teaching them that their word defines who they are and if it is no good, then everything else about them will be questioned or ignored.
Many folks today find ways to excuse or circumvent taking responsibility for their actions, even when they know they are wrong. Many will argue the rightness of their bad behavior. Moreover, there are many organizations ready to aid and abet them in their wrong doings or their failings as human beings.
Sometimes, it helps to take an assessment of our own actions before judging others. By today's "anything goes" standards what would you do if you had to make a responsible choice in each of the following three situations?
In your 20's you enhanced your resume by taking credit for accomplishments you did not do. During your early 40's you find the job of your dream, but during the course of vetting the old enhancements come to light. What do you do? If you have children, how do you explain your actions to them? Do you get an attorney to help you fight your lies? Or do you try to explain your way out of it? Taking responsibility for one's actions takes strength of character,
