Storytelling 2.0
What is it? Storytelling 2.0, voicethreads, audioblogs, digital stories, etc., is a method where people publish pictures or photographs, create a form of animated slideshow with them, and get to reflect upon them in a narration that goes along with the presentation.
How is Digital Storytelling useful in education? The question is, how is it NOT useful. There are myriads of possibilities.
Digital Storytelling, voicethreads, or audio blogs are a GREAT educational tool that integrates many 21st century skills:
Performing searches in the computer (ex: for pictures); Saving, creating folders for pictures and files; Writing reflections upon a photograph, or picture; Reading out their reflections; Recording the readings on microphone; Saving the file on the computer, then opening and inserting it again; Self- evaluating the worth of their work in rubrics prior to publishing; Publishing and sharing. Far from just a blog, this incredible project portrays the stories of 7 teenagers. What do they have in common? They are all war refugees from different zones. Think about asking your students to reflect and write a critical analysis on what they saw, then explain their own realities the way it is done on the site.

Bubble share is a photo sharing application similar to FLICKR. and Photobucket, however, it seems to be a bit more filtered for student needs. That way, every picture you ask the students to research will not come back with a double entendre.
