How to get started with surf fishing

To get started with surf fishing you must know what defines surf fishing. This is the art of catching your fish from the shoreline or while wading in the surf. Surf fishing is almost only done in saltwater. You may or may not choose to use bait or the casting of a lure while surf fishing.

In order to surf fish properly you must have a rod between seven and twelve feet long and it needs to have the option of an extend able butt section. The extended butt section is to arm yourself with enough rod and line to get the best and furtherest cast's to ensure a good fishing day.

You must also equip your pole with a spinning or a conventional casting reel. All fishing equiptment needs to be able to resist the corrosive effects of salt and sand.

Also recommended is full length and chest high waders these are most commonly recommended to protect against the pounding surf. Look for waders that protect against sharp and slippery rocks as these are common in salt water.

Another necessary piece of equipment when sand surfing is a sand spike. Features to look for in a sandspike is that it has an end cap, foot push, and that it is constructed out of aluminum to ensure durability.

Your casting technique's are important as the equipment that you use while surf fishing. Two-handed surf casing adds distance to your cast. Veteran surf fishers use the pendulum cast to achieve up to a seven hundred foot cast.

Also, take extreme caution when surf fishing as it has many dangers. Most surf fishing is done in the whitewater condition. There is the possibility of serious injury and death associated to surf fishing. The strong waves and undertows are a contributing factor to these deaths so pay attention and use extreme caution. There are a lot of dangers associated with surf fishing. When choosing a sight and any equipment to use while fishing use your better judgement.

Recommendation is to fish in low tide areas with no sudden drop-offs to avoid the risk of death associated with high tide.

A wide variety of fish can be caught while surf fishing they range from stripped bass to albacore tuna.

These are just a few tips when learning to surf fish or if you are just wanting to know what surf fishing is. As with all outdoor activities be sure and do your research on the place where you will be fishing. Use your better judgement and use extreme caution to ensure your own safety. These are general suggestions.
