There are a lot of debates out there, like when is a fetus a human and what the Bible has to say about abortion but as a Christian there should be no debate. Follow your heart and know that it is wrong to destroy another human being. Our basic Christian Law that states thou shall not kill (Deuteronomy 5:17KJV) should be enough to satisfy this issue but if not then how about, and it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; (Luke 1:41KJV) or For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy (Luke 1:44KJV). Tertulliian, a prolific and controversial early Christian Berber author, and the first to write Christian Latin literature, wrote "They [John and Jesus] were both alive while still in the womb. Elizabeth rejoiced as the infant leaped in her womb; Mary glorifies the Lord because Christ within inspired her. Each mother recognizes her child and is known by her child who is alive, being not merely souls but also spirits." (De A ninta 26:4) I know that when I was pregnant with my first child any time her father spoke she jumped and squirmed. You cannot tell me that because I carried this fetus in my womb I had the right to destroy it.
When Jesus came he told us that he didn't come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17 KJV). He had to walk a fine line because of what was going on in Israel at the time. But even though he didn't come here to destroy what the Roman government had made into law if it went against God's values he spoke out against it and he condemned it. And he told us that we should do the same thing.
Archbishop of Constantinople, was an important Early Church Father. He is known for his eloquence in preaching and public speaking, his denunciation of abuse of authority by both ecclesiastical and political leaders, the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, and his ascetic sensibilities, wrote "Why sow where the ground makes it its care to destroy the fruit? Where there are many efforts at abortion? Where there is murder before the birth? For you do not even let the harlot remain a mere harlot, but make her a murderer also. You see how drunkenness leads to whoredom, whoredom to adultery, adultery to murder; or rather something even worse than murder. For I have no real name to give it, since it does not destroy the thing born but prevents its being born. Why then do you abuse the gift of God and fight with His laws, and follow after what is a curse as if a blessing, and make the place of procreation a chamber for murder, and arm the woman that was given for childbearing unto slaughter?" I agree with him why would a Christian even consider abortion as being right?
No, there are no verses in the Bible that speaks just of abortion, but that doesn't make it right. You have to follow the morals and values that God installed in you when you became his. I'm not a smart person and I don't have a wall of degrees hanging in an office somewhere but all the knowledge I need I find with the help of God and his Holy Spirit. I know that the fetus is an object of God's care. St. John Chrysostome,
I know that my words here will not have an impact on anyone who truly wants to have an abortion. But I do want my words here to at least stop them long enough so that Christ himself can speak to them. Then as everyone knows they will have a choice to make right or wrong.
