Overcoming anxiety

exist in the present. Like above, where the mind goes, the body will follow. The two work in tandem and are interconnected. The goal of this fundamental is to focus and slow the mind.
Steady Position
Directions: Sit, lie down or close your eyes; whichever is comfortable.
Steady position is all about what works for you to get you comfortable. Are the lights on or off? Do you like music? Don't worry if you fall asleep. The goal of this fundamental is to set the stage for comfort.


Trigger Squeeze
Directions: Set a specific time and place. Put all the steps together. And do it.
I believe this is the hardest skill to master for relaxation. We live in a culture that is always on the go. We feel guilty if we are constantly on the move. The goal of trigger squeeze is to give yourself permission to relax and put all the fundamentals together.

At the conclusion of the practice session, repeat the pulse check. As individuals note the decrease of their pulse, it serves to re-enforce the effects of relaxation and the control they have on their body. Process and discuss any resistance they may feel about relaxing
Just like the fundamentals of basic riffle marksmanship, all of the fundamental must be present in order to hit the target center-mass. If one or more fundamentals are missing, the mark will be missed. The Basic Fundamentals of Relaxation do not work sequentially but rather in conjunction with each other. Additionally, there is no specific order in which to learn or apply each fundamental. However, they all must be present and individually mastered to achieve the maximum benefit that relaxation has to offer.
Basic Fundamentals of Relaxation is not intended to replace conventional therapy, only to re-enforce it and become an additional tool for the self-aid and buddy-aid. It can be used to enhance sleep hygiene and anxiety management. Patients leave the session feeling like they've accomplished and learned something to make a difference. It also puts the responsibility of recovery squarely on the shoulders of the patient to implement
