Untitled Drama for the Stage

Martin and Dominique, a young college couple, have just arrive at Dominique's parent's house. This is the first time they're meeting Martin, and he's nervous about making a good impression. Despite the fact that Martin's neck is covered in hickeys (last-minute plans), he's being assured by Dominique that all will go fine. They're approaching the front door of the house:

MARTIN:

(nervously)

There's no way he's going to be cool with this. Look at me! (Points out hickey-bruised neck) It's so obvious! What kind of impression is this going to make?

DOMINIQUE:

Relax! (She reassures Martin, who's clearly stressing out, by putting her hand on his shoulder)

I already told you, it'll be fine! I have a great relationship with my parents. Just be yourself and you'll be fine. Hey, too bad it's not scarf weather anymore...

MARTIN:

(Martin laughs) That's not funny!

They finally make it down the driveway and to the front door of the house. Dominique opens the unlocked door and the two walk in. The first person they encounter is Dominique's father, who's in the living room cleaning up. As he sees the two enter, he quickly gets up to approach them. He gives her a great big hug.

FATHER:

(excitedly) Hey, kiddo! Welcome home!

DOMINIQUE:

(After embracing) Yeah, I really needed a break from the crazy college life. And of course I missed all you guys too! (smiles)

DOMINIQUE:

Oh and hey, I want you to finally meet Martin. Martin, this is my Dad, Dad, this is Martin. (standard introductory routine - handshake too)

FATHER:

(The happy excited spirit instantly dies. His head looks back and forth from Martin to Dominique, eventually back to Martin)

Nice neck.

MARTIN:

I uhh... um... Yeah... (Martin puts his head down)

DOMINIQUE:

(nervously) Yeahh... uhh, let's go in and see the others.

Dominique and Martin walk past her father, through the foyer, towards the kitchen where her mother is standing! Dominique's mother can only be described as a stereotypical Italian mother. Very excited, free-speaking, and VERY loving

MOTHER:

(VERY EXCITEDLY)

Oh DOMINIQUE! (hugs and kisses her - Italian style)

It's so great that you're back! I'm making your favorite tonight, Veal Parmesan! We all missed you so much, it's just not the same without you around! You know, your sister-

DOMINIQUE:

(impatiently) Mom! Slow down! I'll
