Is it time to purchase a new computer for your personal use? If so, you may be concerned about which type to purchase: a laptop or a desktop.

In my opinion, the choice should be one of the easiest you will ever make. Get a laptop! Below are some reasons to buy laptop instead of a desktop computer.

* Flexibility

Laptops provide the ultimate in flexibility when it comes to using them. First, you can use your laptop all over your home.

When you are working on things that require concentration, you may want to sit in your home office where there are no distractions. However when you are watching a video clip of Susan Boyle for the umpteenth time, you may prefer reclining on your comfortable sofa.

The beauty of a laptop is you truly can take it wherever you go. You are not confined to a desk and chair. And use of your laptop is not confined to your home.

You can take it with you on trips. That way, you can update blogs of travel photos for friends and families at home. And you can stay on top of local news and other areas of interest.

You can also take your laptop to coffee shops in your neighborhood. If you need to study or take on a cumbersome project, you may enjoy doing so in a nice environment like a coffee shop.

Laptops allow you to stay connected - wherever and whenever you want, as long as wireless connectivity is accessible. This reason alone should cause you to want a laptop, as there is no other personal computer option as flexible or convenient as the laptop.

* Compact size

Desktops require lots of cables, and their hard drives take up space. You can avoid the cumbersome aspect of a desktop and the unsightly cables by purchasing a laptop.

Over the years, laptops have gotten increasingly compact. They are now thinner, and they weigh less. This means they take up hardly any space and are easy to carry.

If you like a neat home with minimal clutter, it is likely you will far prefer a laptop to a desktop. Laptops are in less clunky and more streamlined.

* Reasonable price points

Some people used to shy away from laptops because they were so expensive, when compared to desktops. The good news is that the price points have gone down for a basic and efficient laptop.

You can get a Dell that will be more than enough for your basic computer needs for under $500 at Best Buy or other retailers. You can also consider purchasing a refurbished laptop if you really need to watch your spending. Vendors like Dell sell refurbished ones at much lower prices than when new.

* Cool to have

Let's face it. Laptops are cooler than desktops. That's just the way that it is! You can take them anywhere. You can play DVDs from them at the airport or in the car. They look good and they are fun to use.

Laptops are cool to have. If it is time for you to get a new computer, there is no reason not to get a laptop over a desktop. And you will love your new electronic toy!
