Every family and every parent have their own ways of raising their children. The same question is asked from parent to parent, time after time: Should parents allow their babies to cry themselves to sleep? Some parents agree to this while others like myself do not.

Some parents believe allowing an infant to cry itself to sleep is a way of "teaching" the baby to basically put itself to sleep, yes the baby will eventually fall asleep but so would anyone after becoming exhausted trying to get your point across and being ignored.Going to sleep upset is not good for anyone let alone an infant.

There is always a reason a baby will cry. It is normal for babies to cry as crying is the only means of communication when they are in need of something.

Most good parents know their baby and what different tones of crying mean. Up until that baby reaches the maturity level to communicate either by sign or verbally, crying is the way to let mom and dad know they are not OK.

A diaper change, discomfort of some kind, hunger or just a need to be close to mom or dad at such a young age are usually the cause of a crying infant.Common sense and instinct usually tell a parent this as well.

Allowing a baby to cry itself to sleep in my opinion is not a suitable parenting technique as it can add extra stress and tension for both parents and baby.

As a parent it is our duty to nurture and protect our young. Allowing an infant to cry itself to sleep is not nurturing it is neglecting.

Parents may become frustrated with the access crying and the lack of ability to deal with it as the adult. Despite what some may think babies do have feelings and can feel emotions such as stress and anxiety. Negative feelings can reflect onto the baby much worse than an adult as babies do not understand.

Parents should try different methods to help make baby as comfortable as possible before putting them down.Make sure all the basic needs are met the baby is fed, clean and has what it needs. Make sure the room is not too hot or too cold, too bright or too dark.

If everything a parent seems to be doing to help comfort their little one does not work, they should consider seeing their paediatrician or family physician perhaps there is something wrong that you cant comfort.

Babies require lots of love and patience, with that and basic needs met hold your baby he might just be crying for a calm cuddle. Nurturing your child by holding him to help relax rather than cry all by himself is not spoiling your baby, its loving your baby.
