The state of Utah is often known for its beautiful mountains and amazing skiing. Most recently many have found that Utah has much more to offer. In the past few years there have been many magazine and newspaper articles on the advantage of operating a business or hiring workers in the Beehive State and many of the reasons listed are also reasons for raising a family there as well. Several communities, large and small, provide education, fun and safety for parents and children alike.
St. George, Utah
Located in the southern part of the state, St. George is a scenic wonderland. With red rock cliffs surrounding the city, the beauty of St.George rivals any in the state. Many travel or relocate there simply for the beauty, golf courses and proximity to several National Parks. The weather draws many during the winter months as the temperature is warm and the snow hardly ever falls. However, the weather also drives people away in the summer as 100 degrees and more is very common.
Those are the reasons one would visit St. George. The reasons to raise a family there are the same plus many more. St. George is a small enough community to feel a level of safety not found in big cities. Gangs, drug dealers and rampant crime are rare. It is not that nothing bad happens there, it is simply that bad happens less often. St. George has great schools with 19 elementary schools, 4 middle schools and 6 high schools including the Tuachan School for the performing arts. Dixie State College also provides a college education in a small town atmosphere. St. George also boasts a very small unemployment rate. St. George's unemployment rate, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is 4.1 percent in a country whose economy is suffering.
Raising a family in St. George is like taking a step back in time while having access to the future as well.
