In these tough economic times, writers are seeking new ways to earn additional income. Residual income is one of the factors that makes online writing unique. Residuals are ongoing earnings that come from writing and posting articles online. The fact is that residual payments flow in based on the number of views that articles receive on a daily basis.

Residual income increases with the flow of traffic viewing articles. The more views that a writer receives the greater their possible income grows. By writing a larger number of articles, the opportunity to earn residual payments dramatically increases.

Helium offers a peer rating system that ranks the articles in each title group. The higher ranked articles always receive more page views. Writing a high quality article will increase the chances of higher ratings and also the possibility of increased income.

Another factor to consider is the possibility of being featured on a main channel page, a sub-channel page or on the Helium homepage. Each of these pages features specific articles for viewing. Being featured on any of these pages increases residual income of the specific article. However, the Helium homepage brings the best possible amount of increased income. Writing a large number of high quality articles allows the writer to increase their opportunity to earn additional residual income.

Market Articles

Marketing also becomes a factor to increase residual income. By using other web sites such as blogs, social networking sites, or personal websites to direct internet traffic to Helium articles. Creating appropriate links from other websites may increase the amount of traffic viewing articles and increase the amount of income through residuals.

Write for High Paying Channels

There are specific topics or channels on Helium that make more money than others. Writers can increase their income just by targeting those higher paying channels. These channels do not pay more money per view. Instead are viewed more often and create a higher residual payment. Take a few moments to research which of the Helium channels are paying more because of their greater traffic and start targeting articles in those channels.

Write on Perpetual Topics

Writing on time focused topics like news stories can increase page views on the short term. Writing timely articles at the right time can increase residuals for a select period of time. Making the most of a hot topic can increase residual payments on the short term. However, these topics are usually short lived and then residual payments tend to die down to a trickle. For example, few people are still interested in the 2008 Presidential election.

Writing articles that have ongoing appeal is one way to greatly increase residual payments. These articles speak to common issues that people deal with in everyday life. Target personal needs that people deal with regularly. A great example is parenting tips. Not every parent will be looking for tips on potty training but there might be a large number that are currently and as babies grow it would be a continuing need.

Writing and earning residual payments is not as difficult as some might think. By increasing the number of articles, writing in a high quality manner, marketing personal writing, focusing on high traffic topics, and perpetual issues, writers can greatly increase their possible residual income.
