The best combination would be to use both of mast stabilizer and anti-histamine such as Zaditor/ Alaway (ketotifen). Zaditor works quickly and it also last longer. One drop of this medication will give relief for approximately twelve hours. Zaditor is available without prescription. This medication can be used on a long term bases. Always consult your doctor before using any eye drops.
Opcon/Naphcon
Opcon-A or Naphcon-A is an over the counter vasoconstrictor/antihistamine combination eye drop. These drops work two fold by containing an antihistamine to control the itching and a vasoconstrictor to shrink your swollen blood vessels. These drops were only available by prescription up to a few years ago but can now be purchased at your pharmacy over the counter. Unfortunately, extended use is not recommended but for short term relief they work wonderfully.
