Dating after being dumped

Created on: June 15, 2009

You were in what you thought was a great relationship until you were dumped. Now you are alone and wondering how to move forward. It will be hard, but in time you will overcome being dumped and begin dating again. How do you go about this? You start by not dating. That's right. Do not date immediately after being dumped. Jumping back into the dating scene too soon could lead you to a rebound relationship and those are never good for either person.

While you are waiting, take that time to clear your mind and heal. Being dumped is a major blow to the ego, and devastating for the emotions. Take enough time to get over the breakup, and figure out what you want in your next relationship.

Once you are healed, it is time to date again. How do you get back into the swing of things? You go to places where you can meet someone, but not just any place. Go to places where you can meet the type of person you are interested in seeing. Yes, you can meet plenty of available people at the neighborhood bar, but if you'd prefer someone who doesn't drink, why go there?

Friends and family are a good source of dating options. They may have a co-worker who is perfect for you. Don't be afraid to ask and don't be afraid of blind dates. You can also try online dating sites. Even if you have already gone that route, it is worth trying again. Don't let a failed relationship turn you off from the entire process. With online dating, just be careful. You should already know this, but in case you don't, not everyone who uses dating sites is truthful. Know what you are getting into ahead of time to avoid another failed relationship, or just bad dates.

There are numerous options to start dating again after a break-up. Just figure out which options will work for you, and don't let your personal barriers hold you back. Those barriers include fear, apprehension and desperation. If you are dumped you may be afraid of having that happen again. It might. Many people have been dumped more than once. If this is your situation then perhaps you should try to figure out why it continues to happen. It may also be time to change the type of person you date.

Being dumped could also make you apprehensive about dating again. This goes hand and hand with fear. You are afraid of being dumped again, so you are apprehensive about dating anyone who might hurt you. If you allow fear and apprehensive to take hold in your life, you will never have a successful relationship.

One thing you certainly don't want to be is desperate. Being dumped can allow you to wallow in self pity, to feel unwanted and unworthy, and it can make you willing to accept anyone who notices you. You may be willing to accept any behavior from this person, which will continue to chip away at your self esteem.

Dating after a break-up may be hard for some, but it is easier if you leave your break-up baggage with the relationship that just ended.
