Poetry: We are all students of life

by Hunter Mcmillian

Created on: June 15, 2009

I've lost every second because it has lost me,

without that guiding light I don't know who I would be.

I reach for the stars but they runaway, they runaway,

the only thing left to do is bow my head and pray.

I try and I try but it just keeps getting by,

the one and only thing that conceals any lies.

Any lies that I leave laying on my doorstep,

before I leave what sincerity will I have kept?

I stroll down my street only to greet the one that's living so unlike me.

He's an unshaven man eating out of a can sharing his meal with the flies around his filthy hands. I quickly walk away but my eyes say TO HIM,

"I'm sorry man, I'm not like you.

and I haven't been through what you have been through.

How could I be so selfish when I haven't been like this.

How could I be so selfish when I haven't been like this.

How could I be so selfish when I haven't ever been like this."

I've been upset,

I've whined and moaned,

but I have never been and will never be completely alone.
