Google's newest operating system for mobile phones is quite impressive. Android as it is called could easily be the future of mobile operating systems. It's integration with popular Google services such as gmail, calender, contacts and more are almost flawless. With that being said, the iPhone was the first smart phone to develop as much attention as it did. If you'd ever see one in public, those without one would glance over to see with this magical device was or even get up the courage to flat out ask them.

The iPhone owners would generally be more than happy to show of their new baby. It is Apple's reputation and top of the line products that keep them in that elite status. Quite simply, if the T-Mobile's G1 smart phone had received the hype that the iPhone did, I believe it could have rivaled iPhone sells. I am a G1 owner and I am extremely satisfied with it. A lot of the reason is because of Android. With any smart phone I may get down the road, I want Android. It is extremely pleasurable for the user with it's clean and user friendly interface. The owners of smart phones running Android know this to be true, but the general public sees the iPhone as the one and only but that is fair. It is fair because in this market, some things will skyrocket to success and others will get about half way there.

The iPhone is definitely a success. The G1 and other Android powered phones could be considered a success but the fame and glory of the iPhone seems to have put similar devices in the dark. Does it mean the iPhone is better? Of course it does not but the success and popularity is undeniable. The iPhone deserves it though as like Android running smart phones, it is impressive. Technology wise - down the the road, smart phones running Android could be far more advanced than iPhone but its reputation will stay intact unless a future iPhone release will be a major flop which I do not see happening. Then another question comes into play. Would the iPhone even exist if the Apple iPod never gained a substantial level of popularity? I doubt it as the the iPod seems to be the backbone of the iPhone's success.

Don't get me wrong, Google has quite the reputation as well but the glamorousness of the iPhone is too large to deny. Apple has a tremendous following and many fans across the world will buy whatever they come out with next. Android powered phones are becoming more and more frequent and with that their popularity will rise as it deserves to. However, if Apple continues to release impressive new products such as the upcoming iPhone 3G S, they will not fade in regards to popularity.
