How serious is global warming?

by William Dirienzo

Created on: June 15, 2009

You see it everyday in virtually every global media publication; thousands of reporters suggesting that we live in perpetual fear for our future as a planet. These people assure us that global warming is not only occurring, but it is now accelerating at such an alarming rate that very soon the North Pole will melt away, the sea levels will rise beyond our control and all low elevation cities will be flooded in an epic tidal wave. And who does the media point the finger of blame to for all of this? According to them, this colossal catastrophe is completely due to human behavior.

They go on to tell us that if our carefree CO2-producing ways continue, we will be doomed to fail as a civilization. It is a well played scare tactic I must admit; the majority of our population seems to be buying into it, but are we being told the truth? Today we are so blind-sided by what we see on television and what we read in mainstream newspapers that we don't even think to question this irrefutable truth that is forced onto us. Generally, most people take what the media tells them as gospel, feeling (for convenience sake) as though there is no need to question the validity of the reports. Well, it's time to start being inquisitive. Take a step back, keep an open mind, and hear the other side of the global warming story.

In reality, that irrefutable truth essentially boils down to nothing more than opinions based on small data samples and broad estimations. The results of these studies are published in a way that caters to the media's prime agenda: making money. These deliberately misrepresented figures are the scientific facts in which believers in the global warming crisis point to as evidence. In response to that evidence, I'd like to share some facts I came across in my own research.

The hottest day in recorded history was 136F at Al Aziziyah in Libya back in September of 1922. There was also a notable global warming from the 1880s to the 1940s, with a subsequent cooling over the next 40 years. Some people over-reacted to the temperature decrease and began calling it the start of a new Ice Age. Bear in mind that this was in spite of the rising CO2 emissions caused by post-war industrialization; proof that rising levels of CO2 play little to no part in global temperature. Nonetheless, that doesn't stop the media from preaching their warnings. However, to be fair, they're not completely wrong when they say that the Earth's temperature is rising. That much is true, but the
