The individual's role in protecting the environment

Everyone has a role in protecting our damaged environment. There is something that everyone can do. Some people will have smaller things to do, while others have much larger roles in making sure we fix what we have done to our planet. Everyone has made a negative impact in some way, now its time for everyone to help make this situation a little better.

First off, the environmental problems we are facing cannot be ignored any longer. Some people like to call the problems Global Warming and others like to say that Global Warming is false and that people who believe in it, are being irrational. A lot of time, money, effort and knowledge is wasted every year on the argument on whether there is a global warming occurring, instead of just looking at the facts, that we have had a negative affect on our planet. Its obvious that how we live our lives and the conveniences we have made for ourselves have become hazardous to the world that we live in. We can see this from facts that have been brought up with global warming. Facts like the ozone layer is being depleted and the CO2 levels are pretty high right now. We need to find a way to fix these problems regardless of how we label them, and the only way to fix a problem that we all created is for all of us to make an effort.

A few simple things that we can all do are things like recycling and using reusable bags at stores. By doing these things, less trash is sent into landfills and there is less ground pollution that way. We can cut down on the amount of electricity we use and this will help reduce the emissions sent into the air every year. You can put the energy star light bulbs into your lamps and lights which are supposed to last longer than regular light bulbs. Another major contributor to air pollution is the amount of emissions sent into the air from our cars. If we could all car pool, or drive less and walk, bike, or ride the bus more, there would be so much less air pollution. We could also start demanding and buying electric cars and hybrid cars.

For the more financially supported person, you could renovate your home to become more green. To do this, you could replace appliances with ones that use less energy and water. You could install things like solar panels on your home. This would be an awesome investment for anyone. It would cost about $20,000 to install a total solar panel system to power the average sized home. That may sound like a lot, but you have to think that you would not have an electric
