Yes, I believe that the bible can legitimately used for wisdom on living life. Before I say this I would like to point out that I am not a bible scholar. I have never read the whole thing through, but I believe I have felt the jist of it.
If you believe in Jesus you will feel the magic of the bible. If you don't believe you are just reading it. If you believe you are living it. If you believe you are just reading something you are just taking it in with your eyes. You may think about it, but you must commit to Jesus by declaring him as your Lord and Savior.
This is very simple because if you are just reading the bible you are probably doing one of two things. One may be that you are trying to decide if you believe and are taking a critical thought based approach. Kind of being a philosopher is nice, but you will never get out of your head. The other thing you may be doing is trying to pick the bible apart and I will be praying for you after I write this article because I love you.
If you believe, you will LIVE the bible. What I mean is that you will be able to internalize what you read and God will put situations in front of you. Your whole thought process and why you go about your day the way you do will be completely transformed. When you are trying to absorb biblical wisdom God will pretty much send what situation you need to solidify it within your soul.
A lot of non-believers I talk to express how nice it would to have the comfort of faith. Yes, it is very comforting in the most troubling of times. When your life is moving forward it is actually very challenging. This is because, in my view, the closer you get to God the more attention you may get from Satan. I believe God allows this in order to test those he is considering letting into Heaven. These are just personal opinions of a schlump though, only God knows what your plan is.
I can tell you what I do know from scripture though is that he loves the meek of spirit and the poor. This is probably well known since I have personally heard this from a lot people. A trend I have seen is that Jesus works in people's lives at critical and uncomfortable times. I don't know why this is, but what just ran through my mind I will share with you. Our world today is very infected with materialism. This is very obvious to anybody who pays attention to how the world is turning today. People may develop very tough shells because the world is pretty tough, and I think that Jesus and God are playing a quality over quantity game. This may sound like I am being aloof, but when you think about it I am actually complimenting sad and poor people. Jesus' Love to all readers.
