Feng shui tips for small spaces

The next time you decide to do a little spring cleaning in your garage space, consider switching up your organizational theme. Try something spontaneous and different this time around, why not try feng shui? Surprised? Well, if you can consider your large living room for that, then why not the smaller spaces like your garage? According to centuries old Chinese culture, feng shui isn't just another way to organize your furniture, it' actually more than that. The Chinese people believe that your everyday living arrangements have a direct impact on your quality of life.

This means that if you wish to promote balance and harmony in your life, both physical and spiritual, you need to become more interactive with your environment. This doesn't mean that you need to use your garage tools and machinery more often; it just means that your garage storage arrangement needs to be more functional in a physical aspect. For example, if your garage is usually a piled mess- sloppy, tools and materials all over the place, or no organization to it whatsoever, how do you expect to accomplish your tasks in a timely manner? This is a direct reflection of what's going on in your mind- you don't know where to start, and you don't necessarily prioritize tasking information. In other words- You're confused!

So where do you start if you want to clear your mind and improve your mental focusing abilities? Let's start with the basics rules of feng shui. According to feng shui, in order to change our way of thinking, we must surround ourselves with positive energy. Positive energy could best be described as mental and physical motivators- i.e. anything which draws upon your emotions and desires.

If you are having money or financial issues, you could place a few cultural icons within your environment so that you can draw upon their energies- for example, in Chinese culture; there is a Buddha statue which represents good fortune and wealth. If you've ever seen this particular statue, you would probably agree that it draws a certain sense of being financially secure.

Before you start planting Buddha statues all over your garage space, you will need to understand the fundamental driving forces behind feng shui. These fundamental driving forces create and promote good balance in your life. They are also believed to have originated from these natural elements- fire, water, metal, wood, and earth. In order to select the appropriate arrangement for yourself, it's recommended that you get evaluated by a feng shui advisor or consultant. This feng shui expert will help determine what is beneficial for you, in terms of balance- elemental, colors, shape, etc. For example, if you prefer wood furniture to metal furniture, then go with your instincts. In choosing the color scheme of your furniture, pick a color that has a positive charge to it- for example, in some people yellow or blue emanates a sense of energy. So if you wish to stay alert and focused, these colors may suit you the best.

Simply put, by applying the fundamentals of feng shui, you'll be able to create your own Zen environment. It can be a nice arrangement of plants or water fountains- most people find this to be soothing and relaxing. Create enough space so that you can move more freely within your garage, and always have a good focal point to turn to whenever you feel hypertensive or stressed out. Remember, the whole purpose of feng shui and organization is to utilize this space to magnify positive emotions.
