Novel excerpts: Death

by Megan Mcdiarmid

Created on: June 14, 2009

I stood in the darkness of the woods. I could smell fresh earth and new rain. It was cold and the only light I had was moonlight. I was still in shock and I couldnt think. My knees were locked and I felt as if the whole world was spinning beneath me. I could feel my heart beating in my ears and hands. I had just run from the house to here, the middle of the forest. I remembered back to when I was a child and I had been scared of the forest. I used to be scared of the dark. Then Matt came and all of my fears vanished. I was scared again. Matt wasn't here. I let that process through my head.

Matt isn't here, I thought. Matt will never be here.

I felt an instant lump form in my throat and my jaw began to hurt. My stomach turned and I felt twin pricks behind my eyes. "I have no idea. I mean I talked to her yesterday....No, she's not at home. I already checked th- oh shit. I gotta go," some one said. "Meg! Meg! Shit, shit, shit!"

I was numb. I didn't open my eyes and I didn't talk, I didn't want to.

"Shit, shit, shit!" The voice said. I wanted the person to go away and let me rot. I would've been content with that.

"I need an ambulance over here right now, call them for me!" The voice said and then there was a loud click from them shutting their cellphone.

"Ah, hun. What did you do?" The voice said. I was picked up then and thrown over the persons shoulder. The blood rushing to
