Lemon Balm- is good for the stomach and digestive system in stressful situations. Ephedra (ma huang)- May be helpful for lethargic depression. Caution: Do not use this herb if you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, if you have Glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, or insomnia, or if you are taking a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor drug. Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Licorice root, Oat Straw, Peppermint, and Siberian-can all be very helpful. Kava kava-Helps to induce calming and relieve depression. Caution: This herb can cause drowsiness so do not operate heavy machinery or drive until you know how Kava Kava will effect you. You may need to lower your dose. St. John's Wort- This can act the same way as a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors do, though St John's Wort is a lot less harsh and with little to no side effects.
It is important to remember that most people that are depressed don't think that they are. So if you believe that you or a loved one may be depressed it is important to talk to you doctor. Some thing to remember are;
Eat a well balance diet, raw fruits and vegetables are great and include soy products which are high in protein. Remember that low carb diets can cause a depletion of serotonin. Wheat gluten has been link to depression disorders, so lower the amount of wheat that is in your diet. Make sure that you get enough sleep but not too much sleep. Sleeping more then 8 hours can cause you to feel worse and sleeping less the 5 or 6 will cause you to feel more tired and depressed as well. Get dressed and ready to go somewhere every day. Taking a shower and getting ready even when you have nowhere to go often makes a person feel better about themselves. Keep you house clean. It has been proven that what your house looks like and the things around you can effect your emotions and sleeping habits. Making sure that things are the way they should be before going to sleep will help you sleep better. Going to sleep in a disorganized house can cause stress in the brain and thoughts of "things need done". Daily exercise can be extremely helpful. this will help to even out a chemical imbalance and make a person have a better self worth. Open your windows in the house to let sun light in. The sun up the levels of serotonin in the brain making people happier. Natural light is better then false light but if natural light is not available then false light will work as well. The brighter the better. Look in the mirror daily and tell yourself that you are important and beautiful; though this may just sound silly it works. You may not believe it at first but you will after a while. Try to think positively. A lot of bad things happen in everyone's life and the best way to deal with them is to try and think of the benefit from it. Everything has a good side. Talk to someone. There are many hot lines that are available to talk to people when you are feeling depressed. Good luck to you. It is never to later to change your life all you have to do is try. If you know someone that is feeling depressed it is important to talk to them in the right way. Make sure they know they are loved and wanted. Do everything you can to make them feel better about the world and themselves. Though depression can not kill you it is fatal, people all around the world are depressed and many of them are dying from it, because they hurt themselves or another person.
