There are plenty of dates you need to avoid when setting your wedding date. Everyone wants the best weather and several brides choose June weddings. You'll want to choose your wedding date carefully so it doesn't conflict with other important dates. Since statistics show the majority of people read their horoscope and believe the stars affect our fate, then I will also cover astrological dates.
You obviously don't want to choose a date when your guests would rather be somewhere else. Dates to avoid would include Super bowl weekend, the World Series, Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend. It's also generally a good idea to avoid New Year's, Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays.
Then there are dates where people have religious obligations. Christians celebrate Easter, Good Friday and Palm Sunday. The problem with those holidays is that they fall on different dates. Palm Sunday weekend is April 5, 2009 and March 28, 2010. Easter Sunday weekend is April 12, 2009 and April 4, 2010.
If you are Jewish or will have Jewish guests, you will want to avoid Rosh Hashana which is sundown on Friday September 18, 2009 until nightfall Sunday September 20, 2009. It also falls on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 until nightfall on Friday, September 10, 2010. Yom Kippur begins at sundown the night before Monday September 28, 2009 and Saturday September 18, 2010. Passover begins at sundown the night before Thursday April 9, 2009 and Tuesday March 30, 2010. Hanukkah begins at sundown the night before Saturday December 12, 2009 and Thursday December 2, 2010. Friday evenings and Saturdays before sundown is the Jewish sabbath.
Muslims observe the Sacred Month of Muharram Thursday, December 17, 2009 through Friday, January 15, 2010 and then again Monday December 6, 2010 through Tuesday, January 4, 2011. If you expect your Muslim guests to attend, you will also avoid setting your date for the Sacred Month of Ramadan that begins Thursday August 20, 2009 and lasts until Saturday September 19, 2009. It also falls on Tuesday August 10, 2010 to Thursday September 9, 2010.
Notably, July 4, 2009 is Independence Day which falls on a Saturday and in 2010 it is on a Sunday. Some people enjoy getting married on holidays but if you'd like to avoid Halloween it falls on Saturday in 2009 and Sunday in 2010. Day light savings could cause people to show up late or early, so avoid Sunday March 8, 2009, Sunday November 1, 2009, Sunday March 14, 2010 and Sunday November 7, 2010. Remembrance Day falls on Friday September 11, 2009 and Saturday September 11, 2010. If you believe in luck then you probably want to avoid getting married on Friday the 13th.
When consulting the stars, you will want to avoid marriage when Venus is retrograde. If the Moon is waning or void you should not get married. When Saturn becomes involved it can cause problems too, so if Venus is conjunct, opposite or square with Saturn, then avoid this day too. When the Moon is conjunct or square with Saturn, Pluto, or Mars avoid getting married. Mars can cause arguments when conjunct, square or opposite but it also can cause passionate sex. If you rely heavily on astrology you should consult an astrological adviser.
