Anyone can make a scrapbook, but there are tricks to use in order to make a great scrapbook. Since scrapbooking is a hobby that is more of an art than it is anything else, it's a great way to get your creative juices flowing. It's also something that you can do to use up any type of scrap or odds and ends that you find it difficult to part with. If you are a true scrapbooker, then you already have the tools required to create a lovely memory filled book that will capture attention for years to come. But if you really want some ideas that will make your book 'pop' with color, thrill with adventure, and glow with warmth, look no further. These are a few ideas that some scrapbooks just can not be without;
~Calligraphy
Calligraphy is elegant handwriting or lettering that is performed with special pens. This is not something that is done with a Sharpie, or by just anyone. It is a type of writing that is done with strokes and certain movements, and is difficult to perform. If you are fortunate enough to have learned it, it is an artistic talent that can fit seamlessly into a scrapbook. You can use it to adorn pages, to describe pictures, to tell stories or to copy poetry. It is beautiful writing that is unique, and can be made with any color ink, and several different sized nibs to make the letters thin or thick, depending on your mood and the need.
~Wax seals
There are hundreds of designs that you can choose from, so that you may match whatever style that you like. Wax seals are metal pedestals that have a handle on one end, and a design on the other. The idea is to melt wax (not from regular candles, though, it is specialized wax),in a dime sized diameter and press the design firmly (but gently) into the center. After a moment, you remove the pedestal, and the design is imprinted into the wax. It is beautiful. There are common designs to choose from including sun and moon, initialed letters, crests, hearts, Fleur De Lys, or you can even create your own specialized design (but it will cost you a pretty penny).
~Nostalgic letters
If you are making the scrapbook as a gift, write a letter to the recipient as the first page. You can tell them why you made them such a gift and what it means to you as you are making it. A very creative way to do this is to make a new letter look old. To do this, take a regulat piece of plain white paper and soak it in coffee until it is stained. After allowing it to dry, you can write on it. For an added effect, take a lighter to the sides and burn them slightly, or crumble the paper up and then flatten it back out again. The look is greatly dramatic and it looks like something you may have pulled from your grandmothers trunk.
Of course these are just a few simple ideas to add to your own scrapbook. There are thousands upon thousands of ideas that can be utilized in a scrapbook, but these are very crafty ideas. For more information on these ideas, there are websites that I would recommend to check out specific items. For Calligraphy pens and inks, as well as sealing wax kits, check out nostalgic impressions. This site doesn't offer everything one might need for calligraphy pens, but it will give you a good idea of what you might use.
