I am a mother of four boys. The 5-10-15 method works great! I used this method on all four boys. All of my sweet boys was sleeping through the night by four months and three of them were taking great naps. My pediatrician always suggested to lay them down awake so they would learn to sooth them self and that would teach them to learn to put themselves to sleep at night and prevent night awakenings. Any mom or dad knows sleep is precious .So if you are able to get your baby to sleep. It is better for everyone.
When my first born son arrived we begin the 5-10-15 on him about 8 weeks of age. I would have a routine for him and lay him down , pat his back and shh shh shh him , tell him I love him, and walk out. The first night he cried for five minutes . I came back and just rubbed his back and shh shh him and walked out. It took him till 15 minutes for the first night. I cried along with him.It was difficult but very worth it. The next night did the exact same. He fell asleep with in 10 minutes. So the third night I layed him down he went right to sleep. During the day I did not do the 5-10-15 method. I rocked him to sleep in the day time.I had more time and wanted to do that. He never was a great napper I always had to lay down with him in the day time as he got older he gave up his naps at 18 months but very much still needed them. Two hours prior to bed time was rough when he did not fall asleep for a nap.So when my second born arrived we started doing the method about 8 weeks again also.We also did it for daytime naps. His night time routine was the same.It only took him two nights to sleep through the night . He napped so well in the daytime. He is 6 now and just finished kindergarten. He napped up into he was five.Wonderful sleeper.
When my third born came along we did the same again. It took him 3 days at 8 weeks to began sleeping through the night. He gave his naps up at four and a half years. My last born was a very fussy baby he cried for the first two months of his life.It was harder to do the 5 -10-15 method .He slept in the room with me longer because I did not want him waking up the other three so I did not make him cry it out because I did not want him to wake my other kids up.SoI began at 3 months and it took him a week and he began sleeping through the night. He found his thumb and that helped sooth himself back to sleep. He is a great sleeper night and day time.
So I think the key is: Routine, Know that it is difficult but worth it.Don't give in.Sleep is just a couple of days away! The 5-10-15 method is so very worth it!
