I actually think that Helium goes way too far with the adult content banning. I have had a few articles deleted and there was no swearing in them at all, I was addressing real issues that happened to me as a child. Obviously it was deemed unsuitable for the poor, innocent little children to read. I had to live through it! I was once that poor, innocent little child. It seems we can only write about fluffy pink bunny wabbits and skipping in the sunshine on here, and if anybody dares mention something even remotely adult themed like 'I kissed my husband'. Oh dear! Better delete it fast before the little children see it!
Have any of the people who censor some of the articles submitted to Helium ever played a video game, or watched a horror film? It would appear not. I am not saying that people should be allowed to submit pornographic or very violent writings, but some of the pop videos that are released today and aired on prime time children's TV are bordering on pornographic, as are the lyrics. Some of the works from Harry Potter would get deleted on here due to the 'adult' themes (like child abuse - after all, Harry's Aunt and Uncle locked the poor boy in a cupboard and starved him. Not very nice really), and Stephen King would have no chance getting some of his works published on Helium! I read Mr. King's books when I was around 13 and they didn't exactly shock me to the core. There is violence everywhere, on the news, on soap operas, on films rated PG and 12 and the youth of today are far less easily shocked than the fuddy-duddies who censor this site. I read a lot of so-called children's books, and they are not all sweetness and light! And they can be very, very violent. It reminds of me of the days when Mary Whitehouse used to rule British TV censoring!
These days, children are having children. 13 year olds are quite capable of getting pregnant, boozing, playing violent video games (and even the popular ones like God of War and Call of Duty are extremely violent and kids get their hands on them!) and generally acting like worldly wise adults. If they want adult content, I don't think they would come on an old fashioned, prudish site like this where all people can do is write about is boring stuff like lawn mowers and tea with the queen. Most kids are exposed to all kinds of things these days in school. I remember being horrified at some of the things the other kids got up to when I was 11 or 12, and although I was subjected to violence, profanity and saw
