Articles you should consider adding to Helium

by Matt Bird

Created on: June 13, 2009

In all honesty you can add just about anything to Helium, so long as it's not overly adult or graphic in nature (and even that can be stretched so long as you're prudent). That's the glorious part about this website: there's so much to write about that the possibilities for new topics are endless. You just need a bit of creativity in coming up with new titles to suggest. Don't be shy about making suggestions, either - the chances are pretty good, so long as your formatting is correct, that they'll be accepted.

Here are a few tips for subject areas that you might want to delve into while writing for Helium.

- Reviews. I love reviews. Just take something you've read, watched or used at some point in your life and submit a request for a review about it. Then write away. Having used or played or watched said item, you are at least a partially qualified expert in it, and thus can offer your opinion about it. Think you don't have anything to review? Think again - you just need to look around your house a bit and you'll find tons of things worthy of an article.

- How-tos. Do you have any skills that might be considered beyond the norm? Let people know what they are, and provide a brief how-to on how to get them done. Again, you're the expert here. Teach us, the uneducated masses.

- Analyses. This somewhat goes back to the reviews, though in this case you're taking the product - probably a book or movie or whatnot - and focusing on a particular part about it. Expand on some particularly prevalent themes and run with it. It's interesting to see where people go with these topics.

- Travel destinations. Maybe you like to move around a lot. Let the rest of us know which places to visit - and which places to avoid. These can include countries, cities, towns, even just particular restaurants.

- Top ten lists. I love top ten lists. They're so fun to write, almost regardless of what you're writing about. They can be about anything, too: favorite games, ways to work out, whatever you like. Keep in mind, too, that it's not restricted to ten items - you can offer more or less as you wish. (The longest one I've done so far was fifty. That was interesting.)

- Tips. Tips on washing dishes, tips on getting that girl to like you, tips on surviving a hurricane, whatever you like. People always need tips from those in the know, and you can supply them.

- Funny stories or satirical takes on subjects. Share that goofy experience you had with wildlife photography not too long ago. There are almost always ways to make a topic funny.

The opportunities are limited only by your creativity. With a bit of work and forethought you can probably come up with a list of potential topics a hundred miles long - then you just have to submit it. Happy writing.
