Tips for writing poetry at Helium

Writing poetry at Helium is not quite the same things as writing articles on Helium. For article writing, you choose a topic, get the required information, you write and edit and then you post. Easy as pie if you ask me!

On the other hand, writing poetry at Helium is a different kettle of fish entirely. This is to be expected because there is a world of difference between writing in verse (read poetry) and writing in prose (read articles).

But, let's not make any excuses. It is still possible to write great poetry at Helium. Just apply the tips below and you are there before you know it.

1) Read Poems:

You really cannot be a good poet unless you have a habit of reading great poems by other poets. Read poems by the masters and try to figure out what makes their poems so good.

2) Browse the Poetry Channel:

Fortunately, Helium offers you a wide variety of poetry under its creative writing channel. Read these poems with a keen eye for detail. You will definitely discover what's cool and what's not on Helium's poetry channel.

3) Write to Poetry Topics:

Actually, poetry is like prose in one respect. The more you write, the easier it goes. So, write poems on a regular basis. But don't submit all your poems to Helium. Re-write and edit; then submit only the best ones to Helium.com.

4) Write from Your Heart:

We all know the popular connection between poetry and your emotions. Don't ever write a poem mechanically, it won't work. Pour out your heart and soul in your poems. This is what great poetry is all about.

5) Don't Wait for Helium:

What this means is that a poet should not aim to write only to Helium poetry titles. Write your own poems first. Then, find a suitable title on Helium to which you can submit them. I find this a very effective ploy. My best poems on Helium were written long before I ever heard about Helium.com. But, I later found a relevant title to post them under at Helium.

6) Don't Write for Money:

This should be very clear to anybody that knows anything about writing poetry. There isn't much money in poetry. Unless of course you are Lord Byron. This British chap received 2500 pounds for just one installment (canto) of his poem, Childe Harold back in the early 19th century. That's a lot of money for one poem today. Back then, it was an incredible sum of money.

7) Set Yourself Free:

A poet is an artist. For this reason, you need to be innovative and daring to write great poems. As a poet, you should learn to think outside the box. Break the rules sometimes and exercise some poetic license. As a famous writer once expressed it, The merely routine is the hidden enemy of high Art

Finally, believe in yourself. Nothing is ever achieved without optimism. These are some of tips on writing poetry at Helium. Make use of them and they will work for you to great effect.
