In order to understand the difference between religion and Christianity, we must first look at its definitions. Religion is beliefs usually based around creation of the universe. Christianity is focused on Jesus as the creator of the universe, and the one who was crucified for our sins. It is hard to really tell the differences between Christianity and religion because Christianity is classified under religions. When classified like that, you get very many similarities and a few differences.
Since we are using the word religion then we can use the kind of religions. When understanding the differences of different religions, we get enormous differences. Christianity believes in one saviour and God, Jesus Christ. Buddhism beliefs are based on a man named Siddhartha Gautama. Islam beliefs come from the man named Muhammad. Judaism beliefs come from the Hebrew bible called Tanakh.
Religion is something that was man made, and Christianity is based around Jesus Christ being the creator. This means that Christianity was made by Jesus and religion was made by man. Religion is beliefs and an obligation to follow laws of those beliefs. Christianity means loving God and worshiping him, you obey his laws, but it is because you love Jesus that you follow the laws. Religion is based around men making agreed beliefs and laws, or a set of faith. Christianity was not made by a man, but Jesus Christ, who made the beliefs, faith, and laws. Religion is kind of like government, it has laws that are made and carried out by men. Christianity again, was not made by men, but Jesus Christ. With that stated, we could easily say that Christianity should not be classified in religions. Buddhism and Islam should be classified under religions because they are both made by man. Which brings me to the question of why is Christianity not classified as it own way. I am not sure why, but is seems unusual that Christianity is still classified under religions. But then again, for some reason, men like to have fifty different definitions for one word. So the word religion has been related to a deity/God, but that still means that men would have changed the definition. Even if it means a deity, Christianity has JesusChrist, not just some random God. Christianity is also based on the belief that there is only one salvation, and that is through Jesus Christ. Religion is getting salvation through a way of life, not through a God or Jesus Christ. In Christianity, you are saved through God because Jesus died on the cross for our sins, not through a life of working hard and doing good deeds like religions. Religious men will gloat and show off to others. Christians will keep their accomplishments to themselves according to the bible.
In the end, religion is still composed of different beliefs such, as Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. But the major difference is that the beliefs are all very different.
