I think I would have to say the best gift I have ever received would be my daughter Brooklyn. You see I am 30 almost 31 years old and ever since I can remember I wanted to have children. I was married in 2000 and we tried without success to conceive. We ended up divorced and I think our incapability to conceive played a small part in the divorce. The problem I later found out was with me. I was told I had a Bicournate Uterus. That means my uterus is misshaped and in order for me to get pregnant and carry to full term the baby had to implant in just the right spot for adequate blood flow and space to grow. I endured 7 miscarriages.
I was ready to give up until I found out shortly after my 7th miscarriage that I was pregnant yet again. Me and my boyfriend were both scared and happy. I followed all my doctors guidelines and even quit my job to stay home and take it easy. At 32 weeks she was ready to see the world but the doctors wanted to wait two more weeks until she was 34 weeks along. I sat in the hospital 2 hours away from home for two and a half weeks until finally the Cesarean was scheduled. On Valentine's Day 2009 Brooklyn Faith was born.
I have never been so scared and excited at the same time. My surgery was scheduled for 5pm and my boyfriend and parents drove to be with me. Well, we waited and waited and waited some more. At 8pm the nurse came in and said it was finally time. Everything with the surgery went as planned and in just a little over an hour my life was changed forever. When they held her up for me to see I did what every new mother does I think. I counted toes and fingers. I wanted to be sure she was ok and then the tears started to flow.
It was at that moment that I knew all the pain and heartache I had been through for many years was finally worth it. I had my gift. The most wonderful gift of all, the gift of life. She is almost 4 months old now and everyday she teaches me something new. Every day I wake up and see her smiling face and I know she was sent to me by God. She is learning and growing so fast that I'm scared if I blink I may miss something. Being a mother is hard work and I have found myself wondering if I am doing the right thing but the rewards far out way the bad stuff. I know I am truly blessed to have her and I will do everything in my power to protect her and make sure she has everything she needs in life. She has brought so much joy to my life already and I cannot wait to see what her future holds for her and me.
