Frustration
Few things get the best of me,
These days I live pretty leisurely,
Being retired and single, I do as I please,
Doing the work that I must, then taking my ease.
Loving to read and to write,
I indulge myself in these most every night.
Sometimes writing comes quite effortlessly,
But then, sometimes my muse refuses stubbornly.
Often I give up in total frustration,
And go to bed to avoid the temptation,
To work all night to reach a conclusion,
That, if I keep writing, will end in confusion.
Very few things frustrate me more,
Than when "easy" writing becomes a chore,
And slows and balks and refuses to move along,
Then stops in mid sentence and gives its swan song.
Well, so, I'll just put this one away,
And perhaps return to finish it another day,
Because, I know that frustration can not long live
among optimism; there will come a day when the muse...

In my heart I long

What quietness is this that exists to torment my soul,
That you readily provide me with?
