Memoirs: Why I write

by Eric Karen

I like to write to expunge my mind and try to get my opinions across. It is said that asking a question is the best way to get a student to learn. I fell like asking myself a question right now but I will not tell you the question right now. The idea that is coming across my mind is serving others. The greatest leader of all time, in my mind, Jesus Christ always taught to serve. He would say the greatest form of leadership is to serve others. I am sitting in a library now full of people who I believe have had enough of the hustle and bustle of American life. To me they seem to want to be able to relax. They seem sick of the one-upmanship of societal ladder climbing. They are very sensitive to feeling being in a lower position. Is our reality set up that way regardless? Is not a family led by the father and every organization led by a leader? When you ask yourself if a eutopian society is possible what is your answer? Even in a pure democracy are there levels to transcend? What is my point I don't know except that everyone needs a little relaxation time.

How much time do you spend relaxing and just enjoying where you're at? It is very critical to find a spot and time where you can do this. If you feel the constant drive to make money and gain material possesions it will never happen unless you are enjoying life. As a matter of fact you must put more emphasis on finding where you love what is around you. If you can't find this spot you must find Jesus Christ. Jesus will help you see your life with a layer of love that can't be penetrated by what you don't want in it. You will gain wisdom and strength to grow this seed throughout your life. There will be ups and downs regardless of what you do. Wouldn't you like a layer of love to insulate you against the pains and enhance the joys?

I am telling you this through personal experience. I never really wanted to go after what I wanted or really enjoyed life without Jesus. I go about things in a pretty unconvential way that some people find a bit "crazy". I have traveled without a guaranteed job and have been on the streets in some of America's biggest cities. This has been the last two years of my life and I have had every person who cares about me be kind of concerned. If you choose to go forward and really really go after how you want to live you may encounter this also. In order to allay the fears of others just tell them there is nothing to fear but God!
