People only receive one opportunity to make a first impression in every aspect of life. Dating is no different and the first date most often sets the tone for both the potential and success level of a new relationship. Having a great first date is a tremendous way to jump start a successful long-lasting romance. It is not to say that is impossible to overcome a negative first date experience but it does take significantly more work than making an unforgettable positive first impression. A first date that falls into the good category would be one where there is a definite connection between both people involved in the date. That doesn't mean that you cannot have a few awkward moments, but there must be enough intrigue the between the two individuals involved to desire spending more time together as seen as possible.
Physical chemistry does not automatically translate to emotional compatibility. Therefore it is important to consider all aspects of the reality of a potential relationship. It is more important that the two of you keep conversation flowing freely without having to search for things to talk about then it is that you instantaneously feel physical attraction. If the physical side of the relationship is emphasized during the first date, the relationship potential dwindles down significantly because there is no more chasing necessary. The old saying that less is more certainly applies to the dating scene perhaps now more than ever. If a relationship has positive potential then the reality of things is that there will be no difficulty in keeping the other persons attention during the date.
Unfortunately if physical contact is the only reason that a date goes well, the long-term prospects for the connection between the people involved is very slim. it is important that both of you establish during the first days of a relationship that honesty is essential in any relationship. The mass majority of people do not tell the complete truth when asked directly how they thought a date went. This is because they do not want to offend the other person. It is important that we have the ability to take criticism and realize that not every first date will lead to a successful relationship. If honesty is a cornerstone of how one approaches romantic connections, they will have more successful dating experiences. If a first date goes well and their is no follow-up, chances are the other person is not over a previous relationship and ready to start again. This is usually nothing to do with you, it has to do with the other person trying to force themselves to be ready to date again.
