The newfound joy of being a new mommy is an irreplaceable feeling, and can't be matched with anything in this world. But, the newness of it can quickly wear off, and be replaced with boredom as the weeks and months go by. While it's not often spoken of, many new moms become bored with their new title, and all the responsibility that comes along with it. Let's face it, there's not much joy to be found in the repetitiveness of washing laundry, preparing meals, changing diapers or watching Barney day in and day out. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all a mommy does for her family. There are, however, things you can do to ward off that boredom bug when it comes buzzing into your world.
Get together with other mommies. The beauty in this is that some feel the same way you do, and sharing your feelings is a great way to overcome them. You're baby will also be able to interact with other babies which may take the burden of off your shoulders to keep them entertained.
Pamper yourself at least once a month. New mommies have the tendency to chronically put their babies and even their spouses before themselves. There's no better way to find yourself rundown, and bored with the whole mommy thing, quicker than to neglect your own wants and needs. Do something for yourself at least once a month to remind yourself that you're individuality hasn't been lost in your new mommy status.
Shut off the television and get outdoors. Fresh air has a way of waking up the senses. Go for a walk, invite friends over to hang with you and the baby, or go visit others.
Feed your personal interests. Sounds difficult, but it may not be. Do you like to decorate? Why not redecorate a room in your house? Enjoy cooking? Your spouse and friend would probably be more than willing to tend to baby while you cooked them a delicious meal. If gardening is your thing there's no reason baby can't sleep in his stroller while you create in the soil.
The point is that in many cases, overcoming new mommy boredom is no more than a matter of doing what you've always done. There will be adjustments that have to be made, but they may not be as impossible as it appears.
Have you ever thought about learning how to sew? Maybe you've always wanted to pick up painting or start collecting antiques? Now is a great time to start that hobby you've always thought about.
I had never personally dealt with new mommy boredom with my first three children. But, when my twins arrived, and my work load doubled, I found myself quickly bored with the everyday routine of it all. These boredom-fighting strategies worked wonders for me. Hopefully, they'll work for you also.
