The effect of Hip-Hop on American culture
Most people would say that serious change is desperately needed throughout America. I believe that art, creativity and boundless imagination can stimulate this great change. Hip-Hop is the subversive sound of revolution in our present American culture.
Gifted rappers such as Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, K-OS, Mos Def and KRS-One(whose material are all available on youtube), are building revolutionary changes in the consciousness of our society's understanding of itself, with a super-stylistic flow of our English language and striking political/social commentary. These artists are trying to wake the sleeping masses of media-brainwashed, fast food consuming automatons from their hypnosis, through heavily charged lyrics and powerful beats.
Even mainstream rappers such as Eminem and Jay-Z share their personal stories of war, self-preservation and revolt, if only to incite an emotional response from a hungry audience consisting of all ages. Rappers and emcees around the country, fully represent the varying archetypes of America's East and West coasts, the Midwest and the 'dirty' South with equal passion and purpose. There is a secret war on for our minds and Hip-Hop is a provocative tool for survival amongst many backgrounds here in the States.
Hip-Hop explicitly tells the stories of everyday people and their encounters with law enforcement, snitches, drugs, sex, gang violence, education, money, war, prostitution, gambling, alcohol, secret societies and much, much more. There is not a sociological issue that hasn't been touched by Hip-hop artists. From Public Enemy to Tupac and Biggie, the seeds of social change in America have been sown by 'criminal minds', ballers and shot callers.
In the Fugees album, The Score, there is much talk of organizing our people and preparing for Martial Law in America. This has been found to be a very possible scenario introduced by homeland Security and the Patriot Act. Rappers like Nas has been rapping about this issue for over a decade. In a new world order, fight music is necessary. Rap is dangerous to the establishment. Music can be used as a weapon against a government. Hip-Hop can be dangerous to the system if the message is true. It is fight music for the human revolution, against the elite and military-industrial complex. This is better known as the Illuminati.
Listen very closely to a powerful emcee and he or she will open your mind to standing up for yourself. R&B and Hip-Hop has never been more popular in America than it is right now. This is because rappers speak to the down trodden, those that ultimately need inspiration from an intense creative force. Buy yourself Immortal Technique's Revolutionary Volumes one and two, and step outside the box for a few minutes. Freedom of speech is one of only remaining freedoms. Plug into some fight music and enjoy being an American!
