Product Review: Vaseline aloe vera

Somehow over the last few months I have managed to accumulate quite a few lip balms, and I don't really know why. Ok, so two of them were presents, and I bought one from Lush because I absolutely adored the smell, but other than that I don't know why I have so many. I don't really know why I buy them, since the whole point of lip balms is to sooth and moisturise your lips when they're dry, and when my lips have this problem there's only one of the balms that I reach for, and that is Vaseline.

Vaseline is a strange product, as it is made from petroleum jelly, which sounds disgusting in itself, and sounds like something you'd never want to put near your mouth, since it is vaguely related to petrol. For whatever reason, however, this substance is surprisingly good at moisturising dry lips, which is why Vaseline has managed to have such great success in selling their lip balms to the public. These pocket sized lip balms come in several 'flavours', such as original, SPF 15 and a rose flavour which I haven't seen for a while. My favourite, however, has to be the aloe vera version.

The Aloe Vera Lip Therapy balm from Vaseline really is fantastic, and is the only lip balm which I find actually helps to sooth my lips and the surrounding skin properly when they are dry and red. Most of my other lip balms only actually stave off soreness and dryness, whereas this Vaseline actually reverses it. The aloe vera in this version is soothing, and adds a nice scent which is missing from the original flavour, though is not as nice as the sweetness of the rose version, which smells amazing.

In short, this Vaseline lip therapy is absolutely amazing for soothing dry and sore lips, and so is perfect for those who suffer from this problem. I would say, however, that if your lips are chapped rather than just dry, you will be better off with Carmex, but otherwise this lip balm is amazing. Also, since it only costs 94p for a 20g tub at Boots (which lasts for ages), it's probably the cheapest lip balm on the market, so there's really no reason not to buy it. Carmex, on the other hand, tends to cost a lot more (roughly 3 for a small tube), so if either will do, I would suggest going for the cheaper option of Vaseline. I would strongly recommend this balm to anyone who ever has even slightly dry lips (which must be everyone, surely), as it is fantastic as well as being fantastically cheap.
