Seriously now... was Barry Sanders super human? No. But he sure looked like it at times didn't he? The best thing to ever happen to the Lions was the worst thing to ever happen to the NFL. The Lions drafting Barry Sanders. Yes, we Lions fans loved it. He was beyond amazing and he was ours. But what would he have been if he was on a good team? Imagine if he was on a team that could actually open holes for him? Imagine if he didn't have to make some spectacular move to make a blitzing defender miss right after he took a hand-off? Or didn't take the one yard losses because his line couldn't stop a blitzer? Imagine the yards he would have had if he didn't spend so much time scrambling around in his own backfield before finally finding a hole to take off through. Imagine if he had a line like Dallas so he could stay in on goal line plays rather than the coach being afraid to get him hurt. As much as I am glad he was a Lion, him being a Lion was the worst thing to happen in the NFL. I robbed the world from seeing just how good he truly was. I robbed the world from seeing the greatest running back in the history if the NFL and gave room for debates like "who was better? Barry or Emmitt?"
We Detroit fans know how great Barry Sanders was because we watched the magic in his moves each and every week. The rest of the world watched Emmitt Smith and Dallas and then saw Barry on the hi-lite films.
