The difficulties that plague us in every day life seem to be inescapable and often overwhelming. There are bills to pay, jobs to work and for many, mouths to feed. At the end of the day, you may have less than an hour of time to yourself. It is in these few precious moments that potential either dwindles away as exhaustion overwhelms you into a comatose state, or self-reflection guides you to your next strategic awakening.
Many people are faced with mediocrity and inevitably accept it which leads to wasted potential. Acceptance is an important tool which enables human beings to understand and analyze a caused occurrence from unbiased angles. However, when referring to a life situation in which acceptance is linked with "settling", the mind conforms to the principal that perhaps you have already met your potential. I assure you, no matter your age, level of intellect or current environment, you have not maximized your potential. This statement is not to be alarming, but rather an exciting understanding of our reality.
Self-actualization is a concept used by Maslow in his work surrounding a Hierarchy of needs. In order to maximize potential, it is essential to first satisfy basic needs in order to fulfill your intellectual wants. Positive energy is key in succeeding in life. Furthermore, taking the minimal amount of free time in your day to self-reflect assists in furthering self knowledge. If you settle for mediocrity in the workplace, remember that your current state is not permanent. Your perspective of success may change and in taking the time to evaluate where you stand, you may have access to the information needed to soar. Only you can realize your needs as material possessions can only bring you as much joy as their value. Remember to seek comfort in others as they have a great influence in your mood and assist you in affirming your self concept. There are no defined answers as to what makes one successful in life. Monetary gains are manmade and often are the main focus when addressing the concept of success. Life does not end when money is abundant. In the same way we were born with no monetary possessions, we end our lives with just as many. Surround yourself with positive energy, honest affirmations and strive to further your understanding of your environment and the people that play their roles in your life. It is through ambition and understanding of these factors that you will continue to maximize your potential. Your quest of self-actualization will be rewarding in itself.
