Yes, one can get into Heaven by being a good person, which begs the question, what makes a "good" person? Is it giving time or money to charities? Is it being kind to kids and stray dogs? Whatever one thinks of as "good" is merely an outer shell. The true goodness God seeks is the seed within one's soul.
The very core of a human being's values, morals, ethics - beliefs that do not sway, no matter what that person says or does, makes him/her a good person.
Also, there are two things one must consider when thinking on getting into Heaven: the first is that Jesus lived in a totally different era than we, and understood hardcore evil even then; and two, being a good person does not mean blind obedience.
For example, serial killers, murders, rapists and thieves cannot [notice I say "cannot"] get into Heaven merely by mouthing the old "Lord please forgive me." It doesn't work that way. God knows an evil soul as such, and Jesus knows the same: evil is evil, even a child could spot.
Yet without quoting the Bible, parables or popular sayings [I am however, Catholic], I can say good people go to Heaven for a reason. I have been there three times, because of my birth defect, Epilepsy. All three times I stopped breathing. All three times I had no pulse, no blood pressure - nothing.
The very last time was the scariest, because I was in the ocean at the time. I had told hubby I was going in, because I couldn't touch bottom; was literally a step from shore when the seizure hit without warning. I try to block what happened out of my mind because I know how the ocean behaves, and don't even want to go there. However, once I was checked out back on shore, I discovered I hadn't swallowed so much as a drop of seawater!
During that time I felt great peace and tranquility that is indescribable through mere words. My spirit was pulled almost magnetically toward something I couldn't see, yet there was no white light, no dead relatives and/or what others talk about. I could go into detail of what happened further, but that is not the purpose of this article - do good people go to Heaven? Yes. Do people who are inherently evil, and try lazy tricks as they die? No, no, and no.
I believe that a person reaps what he [or she] sows. Heaven is a wonderful place where there are no worries, no pain, no despair or sadness. And one's experience of Heaven, is as his/her mind perceives it to be.
People may scoff, say what happened to me was a "near death" experience, but they need to think again. No pulse, heartbeat, blood pressure, etc, with one turning blue from lack of oxygen, is not "near" death. And what happens to such a person, although misunderstood, is infinitely real.
Good people go to Heaven because of the best values within them, the boundaries they will not cross; the cruel deeds they will not do. Naysayers have the right to their opinions, but with first-hand knowledge on my part, their words are mere empty shells. When they pass away, they are in for one heck of a surprise - I wonder which side of Destiny their souls will receive? The journey to Heaven despite their hollow words? Or the hell of pure, spiritual/mental anguish, with no body to return to?
The answer will be the ultimate justice from the ultimate word. The Word of God.
