Why it's important to educate parents of transgendered children

A while back, Barbara Walters aired a special interview with Trans-Gender children on ABC. The show made a huge impact on the feelings of parents pro and against the topic. It was an amazing reality wake up call and highly educational. One young boy in particular, was the star of the interview, as he openly discussed his gender preference as a female with Barbara Walters in his princess decorated room. He or she, I should say, was diagnosed with a disease called Trans-Gender Identity Disorder and lives as a little girl. The parents on this show were very supportive, however, one father broke down in a depressing live scene of crying. This father, was clearly devastated by his child's disorder and was having a difficult time accepting the change. The purpose of the show was to educate parents about this real way of living and encourage the world to accept these gender confused children into society with loving arms.

Something about little boys dressing in pink dresses and wearing one piece bathing suits, can seem very bizarre and disturbing to watch on national television. I feel the program should have focused more on the psychological states of the parents and not have exposed the children so drastically. If you watched the program, you couldn't have helped but to notice how ecstatic and proud-like the mothers were, that their little boys were posing as the female gender and how depressing the father's faces were. One of the mothers admitted to buying her little boy a lace pink dress and hid the secret from the father. Is that not encouraging the child to be more confused about his gender role? Notice, the fathers were present in the program, which was very surprising.

I am not one to judge because I realize that these children were diagnosed with "Trans-Gender Identity Disorder", but it is imperative that these children's future lives are being put into some serious consideration; letting them deal with the gender identity when they are at least as of adolescent age. I feel that the entire controversy surrounding this subject will ultimately affect the children in the long run, one way or another because it is a cruel world. Gays and lesbians are consenting, normal adults, therefore, gender or sexual preferences do not make humans bad characters whatsoever. Trans-gender consenting adults have every right to address their wishes or beliefs. But in the case of a child, it's not morally right to dress them as the opposite sex and send him off to school to be ridiculed and bullied.

The need for further aggressive education on this topic is highly encouraged for our society. I wish the best for those kids and their parents. Everyone has a right to be who they choose and it's easier said than done.
