Webcomic reviews: Zap! by Pascalle Lepas and Chris Layfield

Review of ZAP!

Of all of the web comics that I have found I have never found one quite as good as ZAP! by Chris Layfield and Pascalle. It is truly an online masterwork, and though i haven't gotten back to it in a while I definitely intend to read all of volume five sometime soon.

ZAP is the story of a haplessly dense amnesiac who is picked to be the new captain of a spaceship he is grossly unqualified to command. This comic is full of humor from start to finish and at the same time has an action packed plotline that keeps the reader guessing. The art is really top notch, but I should note that in the first volume the art is a little unimpressive however over the course of the five volumes of this comic it has improved to the point where it is indistinguishable from professional level comic art. The only drawback to this series is that it is deceptively long, (it's not something to be read when your pressed for time). When you first see it only has five volumes the natural thought is that its going to be disappointingly short but don't fall into this trap because each volume took me at least an hour and a half to read individually. They are immense, so believe me when i say to clear out a few hours if you plan to read this because they are also adictive and one volume just won't be enough, you will find yourself reading two or three whole volumes before you are finished. The reason for this is because they have been making this thing constantly for six years, without much rest it seems. The creators actually complain that they can't do more than they are doing already. And though the production might have lagged in the past couple of years they are still going strong. I really recommend this series to anyone because it has something for everyone I just caution you not to be deceived by the early art or the small number of volumes because the art is superb and the series long.

I would give this comic ten points out of ten on a ten point scale. Layfield and Pascalle are a truly incredible and remarkable creative team. I am certain that both of them will have a long post Zap career in the comic book industry. In fact i would not be surprised if one or both of rhem was offered a DC or Marvelle title once they have finished up Zap. So, I expect very big things from them and you should expect big things from Zap brcause it is an awsome comic.

Enjoy reading Zap

It's a shame that the comics with the best art always end up updating once a week, if that often. I'm always antsy to see
