There is nothing more depressing than living in a garden apartment with boring white walls. You can hang pictures and tapestries but with the back splash of a plain white canvas sometimes your items just look drab. Having been an apartment dweller in the past, nothing excited me more than moving into my own home. Finally the white wall look would be a thing of the past! I envisioned a home full of life and color.

White walls are like a blank canvas. Once color is added it can make the room come alive. Choose the right colors for the furniture and accessories in the room and it all comes together. No matter what you add to a room with white walls it never feels complete.

Think about being outside on a cloudy day when the sky is gray and gloomy. You feel gloomy and you lack energy. On the flip side, on a clear day when the sky is a brilliant blue it can make you feel alive! Color sets the tone for how you feel. Walk into a room that is painted in vibrant shades and you can feel the energy soaring through your veins. Sleep in a room painted in calming colors and it can change how well you sleep at night.

The beauty of it is that painting a room is relatively easy to do. With home improvement stores in almost every neighborhood, the selection of supplies and paint colors are endless. Any shade of the rainbow can be mixed on demand. If you have a shirt for example, that you absolutely love and the color of it brings you joy, all you need to do is bring it to the paint counter and they will match it up for you. You can then paint your room the color of your choice. You can change the entire look of a room for the price of a gallon of paint.

It is proven that color affects mood and performance. When you surround yourself with color it can lift your spirits. It almost doesn't matter what the furniture and accessories are, the right color can work wonders. Before we were able to re-paint our bedroom, it was painted a rather bold turquoise color. Sleeping was somehow difficult. We never felt like we could "wind down" properly. When we changed the color to a soothing pale lilac the mood of the room changed. We slept like babies.

Think about a nursery school. They use bold primary colors. There is thought behind their choice. It helps to stimulate young children just as the use of pastels can promote a calming environment.

The world is full of color and changing the paint color in a room can dramatically change your life.
