The nanny-cam is an valuable tool to help ensure the proper care of your children. It is your eyes and ears when you can't be there, and without it there is no way to know the quality of care your child receives during the time you are away. When it comes to childcare there is no one who is trustworthy enough that you should feel comfortable not monitoring what they are doing and how they are caring for your child. As a police officer I have been involved with case after case of children being physically, emotionally and sexually abused by people who parents believed were trustworthy enough to care for their children. That in mind, it isn't worth the risk to trust your child's health and well-being to someone who is not a member of your family and only cares for your child because it is there job. This reality alone makes the nanny-cam a necessity, but it isn't the only benefit of a nanny-cam.
The nanny-cam is concealable. They are made and installed in such a way that the person caring for a child will never know of its existence. This gives the parent the advantage of seeing the unedited version of the nanny's childcare methods, and not giving the caregiver the feeling they are not trusted. This concealment also ensures that the care giver doesn't put on a show for the camera, and then behave totally different outside the camera's view. The parent is paying the nanny because they want the best and safest care for their children they can afford, so they take steps to ensure that is exactly what they receive.
A nanny-cam is evidence. No one wants to see their child hurt in any way, but if it does happen there are two things the majority of parents want; 1) to find out it was happening as soon as possible and put a stop to it, and 2) that justice is served on the perpetrator. The nanny-cam does both. The recording is available for review as often as the parents wish, and the recording is available to be immediately given to the police if something (God forbid) does happen.
Nanny-cams are worth the money. The average nanny-cam is not dirt cheap. They can range in prices from around one hundred dollars up to several thousand, but think of the alternative. There is no price that can be placed on a child's safety, and with the relative ease that a nanny-cam can be installed by either the parent themselves or by a technician a parent should consider taking the extra step to ensure their child's safety.
Nanny-cams provide piece of mind. What could be more gratifying than to see you were right when you choose this stranger to care for your children. If for no other reason installing a nanny-cam could give a parent the opportunity to watch their child during the day and perhaps see milestones in their child's life and development they may have otherwise missed. With any luck that is the only reason a parent would ever need a nanny-cam, but when it comes to children luck has no place in their protection. Be prepared, be realistic, and understand that it can happen to you, so it is up to you to make sure it doesn't.
