Every day should be Father's Day, why just pick one day? These are the words of my husband, the father of my eight children. When a man makes a statement such as this, we make it a goal to make the day special. We brainstorm, we construct, then the big day comes and we give. All in the name of the man my children call, Dad, Daddy, Faja and The Big Guy.
Crafts are a wonderful way to make a unique gift for an exceptional person such as your dad on Father's Day. There is no better way to spend time with your children than by creating the years next most excellent gift.
You can purchase an ordinary T-shirt and make it extraordinary. You will enjoy this craft so much that you will probably want to pick up a couple of T-shirts in a variety of colors. Go to the craft section at any department store and pick up fabric paints to decorate the T-shirts. A wonderful product is T-shirt transfers that iron onto the shirt. You can create your own design using your computer, creative software or pictures from your digital camera. Then you just print your image onto the transfer and iron it on. Simple and fun! Do not just stop at T-shirts. You can use the transfers to make a special pillow for dad or how about an apron for grilling? Let your imagination go wild.
He is a dad. He is this person that your children have always seen as remarkable, responsible, funny and the light of their life. However, he had a life before he was their dad. Let them know who that was. I set down with my children and we sent our invitations (email style) to family and friends asking them to write a letter or story about their dad, before he was 'their dad' and to attach a picture if they had one. The stories/letters were both funny and touching. Do not forget to add a wife page of how dad and mom meet. We compiled them into a book that we titled, Before You Became a Dad. He loved it! It gave our kids a chance to learn about their dad while he reminisced about his younger days.
Activities for Father's Day will depend on what your particular dad likes to do. Is he the type that likes to get outside and enjoy the outdoors or is he more the catch a movie, check out a museum kind of guy? You could spend the day doing both. How about playing at the local park, running with the kids playing a game of freeze tag? When was the last time you played freeze tag? Pack a lunch in a back pack, put on some good shoes and take a hike. At the end of the day, grill up dad's favorite meal and make sure the dessert is close by. You can end the day with dad's choice. Make a campfire and roast smores or everyone gather around to watch dad's pick of DVD's while you listen to him snore half way through the movie.
It does not matter what you call him, father, dad, or daddy. Father's Day is a day that you should take the time to celebrate the person that you recognize as the man in your life that has been there to take care of you, support you and love you. It does not matter if that man was your dad from birth, adoption or if he was just a father figure. He is someone that should be acknowledged. Let him know how important he is to you and that he is loved. Every day should be Father's Day!
