Title: Rose Abigail Hortense Packracker and her magical Growing shoes

Rose Abigail Hortense Packracker, Rose for short, was a beautiful blue haired six year old. She was the peach in her mother's cheek and the star in her father's eye. Rose stood about three feet tall and had the most beautiful voice ... according to her mother that ever sang "Twinkle, twinkle, little star." Rose's beautiful, bountiful, blue hair was curled and twirled about her head and that made Rose look like a blue sunflower head. Rose's father thought the shade of her hair was the most wondrous, fantastic, absolutely gorgeous thing he had ever produced. It far outshone anyone else's. But, Rose had a problem.

Rose had no brothers or sisters to play with. Rose's mother and father had many, many brothers and sisters and they had many, many children, therefore Rose had many, many cousins. But, her most favorite cousin of all to play with was Mary Tealily Thumbelina Jones. Mary Tealily Thumbelina Jones was six years old also. Whereas Rose Abigail Hortense Packracker had beautiful, bountiful, blue hair, Mary had perfectly, pampered, purple hair. Mary also stood exactly three and half feet tall. This was Rose's problem.

Rose couldn't understand how her cousin could stand taller than she. She asked her mother why. "Mother oh mother of my beautiful, bountiful, blue haired self, why does Mary Tealily Thumbelina Jones stand six inches taller than me?"

Rose's mother answered in a stammering voice, "does she?" Of course she knew Rose was six inches shorter than Mary but she didn't want to admit that to her. Rose's mother hated to deny her beautiful, bountiful, blue haired daughter anything. Instead she added quickly, "Rose, why don't I arrange your beautiful, bountiful, blue hair atop your head and I believe you shall stand taller than Mary Tealily Thumbelina Jones.

This was all Rose needed to hear. Rose ran to her room to gather all the supplies she thought her mother would need. She gathered scissors, ribbons, combs, bows and of course her favorite red striped scarf. Rose's mother looked at all the things her daughter had brought back to her and pondered what to do. Suddenly inspiration hit her and she quickly ran up to Rose and started combing out her beautiful, bountiful, blue hair.

Rose's father came into the room. "Oh my," exclaimed her father, "who can this elegant, beautiful, blue haired child be." Rose giggled and turned and twirled around for her father to see her.
