Reading enriches our thoughts, widens our vision and enhances our knowledge. The more we read, the better our power expression in both written and spoken will be. An avid and voluminous reader is always filled with ideas and great thoughts to express himself on multiple and various subjects effectively and comprehensively.
A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Once Allama I.I Kazi, the great scholar of Sind, Pakistan and a husband of Elsa Kazi, the poetess, famous for her poem, "Neem Tree" said, "Libraries are better than graveyards, for people buried in graves cannot benefit us any longer, but great minds buried in books can still give immense benefits with their great and inspiring thoughts". Books shout in the utter stillness of our libraries, and we race through their pages to gain maximum knowledge in minimum time. Indeed, books are treasure-trove for us. They give us tremendous wealth of Knowledge.
God has revealed His books on His chosen prophets for the proper guidance of mankind against satanic temptations and allurements. Other books were given for information, the holy books were given for transformation. The holy books show us right path and enable us to lead our life to be successful Herein and Hereafter.
Following are certain benefits a reader is supposed to derive from his reading:
1. Reading increases our vocabulary and consolidates our thoughts.
2. Reading gives us immense and inexpressible pleasureand joy when we read great authors, poets and writers. Shakespeare , Milton, Shelley and Keats are our friends, always at our sides to comfort and cheer us.
3. Many poets offer us an escape from all the ugliness, problems, difficulties and miseries of this world and take us to a world of ideal beauty and truth and goodness,w here we find refuge from all that has pained and worried us.
4. Is your memory rusty because your book is dusty? The question speaks volumes of importance of reading. Reading removes rust from our mind and makes it active and productive.
5. A good book is our friend in our loneliness. It is better than hundreds of so-called friends who do nothing but waste our precious time.
Given these benefits, everyone of us is supposed to read to improve an increase our knowledge. Reading is very profitable, useful, informative, healthy and constructive activity. It must be promoted. Our children are also needed to cultivate good reading habit to benefit them in times ahead in their academic career and in their practical life.
