Songs: Long distance love

by Barbara Stanley

Created on: June 10, 2009

You felt a duty and an honorable obligation

to deliver from tyranny and years of oppression,

a people who wanted to form a new nation

and live as free people full of hope and elation.

I know that I should be puffed up with pride,

but it isn't so easy when there is so much to hide-

like the fact that I'm lonely, and as your new bride,

I've ached to be near you and often I've cried.

Can you still feel my kisses and the touch of my hand

as you lie down to sleep in a far and foreign land?

Do you dream of us together as you lie in the sand

next to the soldiers under your command?

Oceans may part us and keep us apart,

as old wars die down and new wars do start.

But nothing can ever touch the quick of my heart

as the thought of you home, till death do we part.

chorus

Long distance love, oh how my heart aches

to be wrapped in your arms, assured of my place

as the one you adore. Just to know you love me,

is all that I ask. Come safely to me, my husband, at last.
