When September 11th 2001 happened, America was jolted into a state of shock. An act of war was committed in a country that professes Freedom and Peace. This act came as a wake up call. America is not immune to what happens every day around the world.. Reactions of this tragedy ricocheted throughout the world like after shocks from a Major Earthquake. People responded with compassion and generosity toward the families of the victims. This country woke up and poured their hearts out to New York City.
President Bush jumped into action with fury. He declared war against the Taliban, and all terrorists. Troops were sent to fight the war. Bush asked all American children to send him a dollar to help feed the poor children of Afghanistan. Schools had projects to raise money. Musicians and actors gave benefit shows to raise money for the families of the victims. Billions of dollars poured in. Each family of the victims in the World Trade Center received millions of dollars to help ease the pain for loosing a loved one.
Over three thousand people lost their lives in the attack. The mayor of New York City became a celebrity. Surviving firemen became guests on television shows all around the country. The attack turned into a publicity circus. The focus of America was placed on the lives of those who were connected to the victims in the attack.
In this country over thirty thousand people a year die from gun shot wounds alone. Thousands of INDIVIDUALS are KILLED by way of murder, violence in the streets, domestic violence, traffic accidents, drug overdoses, medical mis-takes, and the lack of medical treatment by HMO's
Every day in this country, children die from abuse, murder, and poor medical care. Where is our government, and good hearted citizens of this country, for the families of all these victims? Where is Bush with his request of a dollar from each child, to feed the poor and hungry children in THIS country?
If the 911 attack had occurred in a New York City "Welfare Hotel" instead of the World Trade Center, would the out pour of love been the same? Would a war been started to avenge the act against the poor? It is doubtful. This countries priorities lie in how much MONEY a person makes. Poverty is considered a crime in itself. Millions of people live on the streets, and become invisible. Where is the love and compassion from our government and Americans, toward the victims of SOCIAL WAR-RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY?
