Go for a walk around any military base and it won't take long to realize that most soldiers and sailors have great bodies! What helps these guys and gals get so buff? Boot camp! When first enlisted, service members are whisked away to endure weeks of grueling training. Their bodies are pushed to the limit in an effort to create physiques optimal for combat. In addition, they are able to maintain their shapes while deployed with little to no fitness equipment available. Luckily, you don't have to join the military to get in on the boot camp benefits!

Civilians who want to achieve buff results can simply employ the same workout techniques used by the military. Fitness boot camps can be a great option for learning the exercises and meeting like-minded workout buddies. The camps are run by trainers and normally take place in an outdoor group setting, allowing participants a great alternative to the traditional gym environment.

Offered in most major cities, boot camps generally utilize body weight in lieu of traditional weights for strength training. Conventional exercises such as running, sit ups, push ups, and squats generally dominate routines. Calisthenics and interval training are drilled into recruits who want an intense, fast-paced workout. Some instructors even employ the stereotypical drill sergeant persona, while others prefer a more relaxed and friendly approach. Moreover, trainers have begun to apply the boot camp methodology to other types of workouts, such as yoga, hiking, or CrossFit.

Given the variety of boot camp options available, exercisers should be able to find a workout that suits them. By sticking to the program, recruits will be able to achieve great results in no time. One recruit states, "I've been doing this for a year. I feel so much healthier, and stronger, and I have more energy than I used to. I love that the instructor is motivating me. It's like having a personal trainer but more affordable!"

Fitness boot camps can be a great option for someone who wants to achieve impressive results without being stuck in the gym. They offer a variety of workout choices, and are sure to provide challenge and intensity for those at all fitness levels.
