There are no hidden secrets necessary for success when working from home. Don't believe what some of these outrageous ads on the internet tell you. However, there are definitely some things you would need to stay afloat when deciding to leave your boss, not to mention a steady paycheck.
Forging a new path and living the lifestyle you want will take more than just a pie in the sky approach to how you'll generate income. First you'll need an idea that is sensible, and preferably something nobody else has come up with yet. If it's not original don't worry because any idea is a foundation against which all things are created.
If you don't possess an idea for a tangible product, having specialized knowledge would certainly help and you could create an eBook. This can be a phenomenally lucrative business. Take a look at the websites elance.com and guru.com, and register for free. They have clients that are always looking for new writers. Sign up for online websites like suite101.com and associatedcontent.com and share your expertise. It won't make you rich but it would be a great start and pennies always turn into dollars.
Is there an artist inside that is screaming to get out? Try your hand at designing some coffee mugs, glasses or plates. Stained glass windows, if you can come up with a clever marketing strategy, can turn into a nice stream of income for you. You don't have to work with glass. It's possible to make rugs with rustic and old-fashioned mosaics using wool.
Apart from hobbies and skills there may be other positions in your town or city with needs that aren't being met. The laws of supply and demand dictate that if there is no competition then you can get more money for the service you provide. If you love animals then look into taking care of some dogs/cats/rabbits, etc. Turn it into a business.
Do you love to play computer games? Believe it or not there's money to make by playing them. Top players get paid to participate in tournaments and endorse products. If you've got computer and software skills perhaps you can help to design those games.
If you're bilingual or multilingual put those language skills to use and translate documents for people and businesses. An asset like this can take you around the world, but you would never have to leave your computer in the living room. Dedication and hard work are the ingredients for success. An idea, dedication, hard work and a positive attitude will make your experiences more enjoyable.
